Surroundings
Ried is a rural village situated between Franeker and Leeuwarden. There are vast fields with dairy farms and arable farms. Lots of cycling paths and canals cross the landscape. Ried has its own recreational harbour. You can hire boats, cycles and fishing-gear; you have to book in advance.
For further information about activities in the area you can visit the local Tourist Information (VVV). Museums like the Planetarium and Martena Museum in Franeker as well as museums in Harlingen and Leeuwarden are open to visitors.
